Day five was a day of domination for the seeds in both the men’s and women’s singles tennis draws, with top seeds that remain in the competition all progressing through to the quarter finals.
World number one Roger Federer needed just ninety minutes to book his quarter final spot, defeating seventeenth seed Tomas Berdych in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4).
Rafael Nadal had an easier encounter following his second round battle to progress to the quarters, losing just six games to unseeded Russian Igor Andreev 6-4, 6-2.
Meanwhile in the women’s draw, fourth seed Serena Williams needed to go all the way against fifteenth seed Alize Cornet of France, coming from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in just under two hours.

Venus Williams (7) defeated Victoria Azarenka (12) 6-3, 6-2
