World numbers one and two Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have had comfortable victories, with both progressing to the third round in the men’s singles at the Beijing Olympics.
Federer needed just seventy-seven minutes to defeat Rafael Arevalo 6-2, 6-4, but errors creeped into the Federer game, with the top seed having just three less unforced errors than Arevalo.
In the other big match of the day, second seed Rafael Nadal lost just three games to literally smash Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt in ninety-one minutes, winning 6-1, 6-2.

Novak Djokovic (3) defeated Rainer Scheuttler 6-4, 6-2
Paul-Henri Mathieu defeated Nikolay Davydenko (4) 7-5, 6-3
Gilles Simon (10) defeated Guillermo Canas 7-5, 6-1
Tomas Berduch (17) defeated Andreas Seppi 6-3, 7-6(4)
The match between eighth seed James Blake and Dominik Hrbaty is still in progress at the time of publishing, with Blake leading 7-6(3), 4-5.
