Olympics: Swimming - Rebecca Soni gets world record, Leisel Jones second in 200m breaststroke

Hot favourite Leisel Jones has come second in the final of the women's 200m breaststroke at the Beijing Olympics, with American Rebecca Soni winning the gold medal and breaking the world record in the process.

Soni finished in a time of 2:20.22, beating Jones’ previous world record by more than three tenths of a second. Jones’ time to claim silver was 2:22.05.

Sara Nordenstam from Norway won the bronze, setting a European Record in the time of 2:23.02.

Prior to the Olympic final, the nine fastest ever times in the women’s 200m breaststroke were all held by Leisel Jones.
