Seven years on, the world remembers those who perished in the September 11th terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers.
Excluding the 19 hijackers on 4 hijacked planes, 2,974 people died in the attacks, the majority of which were civilians spanning nationalities of over 90 countries.
Although damage caused to the Pentagon was repaired within a year and a memorial built on site, to this day the World Trade Centre’s re-construction remains delayed, cost security and controversy over design all playing a part.
The War on Terrorism that was declared in response to the attacks still dominates American life and politics.
The attacks forever changed the way America and the world operate, with more stringent security measures now a way of life.
