The effects of big seeds tumbling on day six of the Australian Open was just as much felt in the women’s singles draw as the men’s, with two of the world’s top ten female tennis players losing their third round matches today.

World number two Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia was outclassed by twenty-ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, with the Pole defeating the second seed in just seventy-seven minutes. The early exit by Kutznetsova means that she could lose her number two ranking depending on future results.

In another shock result on court today, fellow Russians and training partners Anna Chakvetadze and Maria Kirilenko faced off for a spot in the fourth round. After a tussle in the first set, Kirilenko stepped up her game to easily take the second and third sets to earn a quarter final berth against either Daniela Hantuchova or Virginia Ruano Pascual.

In the only other women’s singles match to be completed so far today, crowd favourite Ana Ivanovic defeated twenty-eighth seed Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia in just under an hour and a half.
