Dream run for Casey Dellacqua ends

After previously never winning a match at the Australian Open prior to this year, the incredible run for twenty-two year old Australian Casey Dellacqua has come to an end, being defeated on Sunday by third seed Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round.

With the first set going to a tie break, many were expecting a close encounter just like Dellacqua’s first three matches, but the world number four was too powerful for the Australian, taking the second set and the match comfortably in eighty-one minutes.

It was not the smoothest of matches for either player, and although Dellacqua was hit nine more winners then her opponent, the world number seventy-eight accrued twelve more unforced errors.

Jelena Jankovic (3) def Casey Dellacqua: 7-6 6-1

Jankovic will now play Serena Williams in the Quarter Finals, after Williams defeated Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic 6-2 6-4.
