"He was not only Australia's icon. He was the cricket icon everyone aspired to be like. He was known and loved throughout the cricket world: he was the sport's flag bearer. He epitomised everything that is great in the sport: skill, sportsmanship, devotion and passion." Sir Clive Lloyd from Icons of World Sport Don Bradman

Icons of World Sport Don Bradman is the official book of the Bradman Centenary and is the only book fully endorsed by the Bradman Foundation.

Celebrating the life and career of an international cricket legend, a stunning collection of past and present champion players, politicians and world identities have come together to contribute to this book, as a tribute to Australia's greatest sportsman of the 20th century.

Sir Donald Bradman's iconic status as a sportsman, national treasure and enduring international influence will remain intact and unchallenged as long as the game of cricket exists.

Bradman's ranking as the game's greatest batsman is undeniable, as his Test average of 99.94, with a century every third innings, has never been challenged. The modern greats, led by India's maestro Sachin Tendulkar - to whom Sir Donald anointed as most like him in batting style - universally acknowledge Bradman's supremacy. The greats of the game universally acknowledge his cricketing superiority.

Beyond the statistics, Bradman's status within the world cricket community could be measured by the number of champion players and leading administrators, together with the universal public, who craved an audience with the great man spanning generations.

His masterful deeds at the crease saw him lift the collective spirits of Australia during the dark times of the Great Depression and post Second World War. On his retirement as a player, he devoted his time to the administration of the game earning the respect of fellow cricket administrators worldwide.
He mingled with royalty, political heavyweights and cricketers of seven generations, yet never lost the common touch. Up to shortly before his death at 92, he spent many hours a day replying to letters and requests in a selfless gesture to maintain and strengthen the people's love of the game.

The book, using many previously unpublished photographs, memorabilia and personal items from the Bradman Museum and other private collections, illustrates Bradman's story, from his childhood beginnings in country Bowral, New South Wales, to international cricket stardom.

With a foreword by Richie Benaud the book features new interviews and chapter introductions from: Sir Alec Bedser, Sir Ron Brierley, Michael Clarke, Sunil Gavaskar, David Gilbert, Malcolm Gray, Tony Grieg, Sir Richard Hadlee, Neil Harvey, Bob Hawke, Matthew Hayden, John Howard, Michael Hussey, Bill Jacobs, Imran Khan, Brett Lee, Sir Clive Lloyd, Sam Loxton, Ranjan Madugalle, Arthur Morris, Richard Mulvaney, Sir Michael Parkinson, Graeme Pollock, Ricky Ponting, Sir Garfield Sobers, James Sutherland, Mark Taylor, Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne, David Wells and the late Col Egar.

A special bonus feature through parts of the book is a small 'flicker book' effect in the bottom right hand corner of certain pages showing Sir Don batting. As you 'flick' the pages it's just like watching the original vintage film of Sir Don hitting a ball off the page.

A percentage of each sale will go towards assisting the Bradman Foundation in their funding of their national Scholarship and Junior Coaching program.
Icons of World Sport Don Bradman is a unique format and an Australian concept. The aim was to publish a book about Sir Donald Bradman that would differentiate itself from the many previously published biographies, not simply by reproducing rare memorabilia and photographic images, but most importantly of all, through the inclusion of interviews and comments from the greats of international cricket, both past and present, to create a product that was truly a global sports book dedicated to an international sporting icon. Icons of World Sport Don Bradman is proudly published and printed in Australia.
