The women’s preliminaries in the handball competition are well into full swing with six more matches completed on day three of the Beijing Olympics.

Romania proved to be a medal contender for the handball competition, scoring seventeen points each half to beat host nation China comfortably.

France was also able to hold on in a low scoring encounter to defeat Kazakhstan by three goals.

But perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the 28-all draw between Brazil and Hungary. Hungary lead by five goals at half time (17-12), but a 16-11 second half from Brazil resulted in the match being level at full time.

Full results from day three women’s handball:
Romania defeated China 34-20
France defeat Kazakhstan 21-18
Brazil drew with Hungary 28-28
Norway defeated Angola 31-17
Korea defeated Germany 30-20
Russia defeated Sweden 28-24

Brazil, China, Russia, France and Spain are all due to play in men’s preliminary matches tomorrow.
