This year’s US Open women’s tennis final wasn’t just about the Grand Slam Title. For the two women battling it out, there was an added incentive of becoming the current #1 ranked WTA player.

It was American Powerhouse Serena Williams who raised the crown for the top-rated player in the WTA Tour rankings, beating Jelena Jankovic 6-4 7-5 today in the US Open women's final today.

This is the ninth time that a grand slam final has featured two women battling for world No.1 honours.
