Parents are outraged at the news that Primary students have attended a school-organized same-sex wedding.
Last Friday, first graders in San Francisco were taken on a field trip to City Hall to attend the marriage of their lesbian teacher, causing backlash from some angry parents.
Reportedly, some opponents of same-sex marriage regard the field trip as an attempt to "indoctrinate" the students.
"It's just utterly unreasonable that a public school field trip would be to a same-sex wedding," says Chip White, press secretary for the "Yes on 8" campaign. "This is overt indoctrination of children who are too young to have an understanding of its purpose."
However, the school is defending its decision to let the students attend, saying the trip was of academic relevance.
"It really is what we call a teachable moment," said Liz Jaroslow, the school's interim director, who notes the historic significance of same-sex marriage. "I think I'm well within the parameters."
It was reported that students tossed rose petals on their teacher and her new wife as they left City Hall.
On November 4, vote NO on Proposition 8.
