4 years ago, 15 year old Zach Stark was placed in facility ran by Exodus, to 'cure' him of his homosexuality. Thankfully he emerged as gay as ever and stronger too.
Today another young man has been taken. Bryce Faulkner is a bright young pre-med student who, like many in college, was totally dependent upon his parents for survival. His car, his cell phone, his education, even his job was all connected to his parents purse strings. Bryce was making plans to come out to his parents, but before he had the opportunity to carry out these plans, his mother found his email password and discovered communications between he and his lover Travis Of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
As any person from the south, especially those whom have a conservative fundamentalist family and has come out of the closet knows, the family can become quite volatile in their reaction to the news. Bryce is no exception to this. In order to manipulate Bryce into accepting "treatment" for his homosexuality, they took away everything and left him the choice of becoming homeless and destitute or going into therapy. As anyone can imagine, this wasn't much of a choice. Being in the closet in a small town left him no one to speak to or to seek help to get him through the transition from the closet and into the light of day. His family took away every resource he had and left him with no phone to call for help, a car to drive to any help that might be out there and no money to even take a bus to Wisconsin to be with his lover. The program he is going into is a 14 month program, one of the most severe and intense of these kinds of programs.
This sort of treatment of one human being is abusive in every way possible. Please support finding Bryce Faulker by joining the Facebook group (below) or the Help Save Bryce site.

I do hope Bryce finds happiness. It's unfortunate that so many gay youth are put in the position of "get out" or "be straight." I would like to hope it would teach them strength and independence - to fly or die. Sadly, so many of those that do choose to live openly find themselves on the street with no support to lift them back up again. Imagine, feeling like you have to live the life expected of you rather than the life you long to live.
I am the creator and administrator of Friends of Bryce on Facebook and designer and creator of the Save Bryce website. I lost a dear best friend in the south. He was blown apart by a shot gun blast from a fundamentalist and the sucker got away with it. While I have forgiven his murderer, I have not forgotten my friend. One of the reasons I created the site was because I beleive this kind of treatment is a human rights issue. There is no credible scientific evidence that prove homosexuality is anything more then a natural occurrence in nature. It is time to stop outdated, misinformed, misguided treatment that does more harm to the psychology of an individual then it helps. It is time to tell the world to live up to the commitment to their Prophets and treat others as they wish to be treated; with dignity and respect! The sun does not revolve around the earth and homosexuals are indeed children of god, naturally a part of this world and perfect as they are.
