SANTA ANA, Calif. Images of teenage water polo players from several high schools in Southern California have been appearing all over the internet, including the infamous "grey speedo guy", a newspaper reported.
When Edison High School boys water polo coach Diggy Riley was shown an online photo of a player on a pool deck wearing just a Speedo swim suit, he recognized the athlete immediately.
The player was an Edison freshman.
Some of the pictures, of boys as young as 14, were displayed next to photos of nude young men and graphic sexual content, an Orange County Register investigation found.
Parents, coaches and school officials were alarmed, and parents said some of the boys were traumatized and sought counseling.
"These kids don't look at what they do as shameful," said Joan Gould, an international water polo official and a spokeswoman for a group of Orange County water polo parents. "For someone to come in and take what these kids are doing and take it out of context and exploit these images, these kids and their schools, because you can see the school name on the caps, is just horrible."
Police at the University of California, Irvine, confirmed they are investigating whether a campus police dispatcher had photographed the high school athletes for gay-oriented sites. The man had not been charged, and police Chief Paul Henisey said he remained on duty.
"We're looking into the matter," Henisey said. "We're not exactly sure about what we have or what kinds of issues there are."
It was not clear if posting the pictures constituted an offense.
"With free speech and photography, there's a gray cloud in terms of what is legal, constitutional," said state Assemblyman Jose Solorio, chairman of the Assembly Public Safety Committee.
Solorio said he would have the committee investigate the matter.
The "grey speedo guy" has been indentified as one of the photos in use. GenQ reported last year that people are using that image to set up fake underage profiles on myspace. They then use the profile to entice underage gay boys to send nude photos to the profile owner. Here is an example of what their profiles usually say:
"i am 15...almmost 16 ...i love to trade pics....boys mostly , but some girls turn me on...u kno who u r ...ask me to trade ..we go 1 at a time."

I know one site mentioned in the original text and I have to say, there are false accusations. In my opinion these high school and college players have been at least 16 years old and at that site the water polo pics were placed at a shirtless gallery, hence NOT next to naked images or even sexual acts. So we have to be careful, some people try to misuse this issue and spread rumors.
well my question is who was the one surfing the "gay sites" to find the pics of the teens, one of the holier than thou parents or one of the teachers?
these kids are not traumatised, sure if you drive it into their skulls that they are traumatised, then yeah they will agree to seeing a shrink, or maybe they are forced to.
they were in the same speedo they wear to compete in front of thousands of people per year, the only reason they feel so traumatised is because everyone has made such a big deal out of it!!
even new candid swimmer pics added at younglifter.com e.g. this post http://younglifter.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50675 (the member "angel113bg" is also one of these photographers) you have to create an account (e-mail verfication not required) to see the posts well, it's obviously legal, and younglifter is a porn site as well. Pics of Scott and Allen also still at http://portalg.es/gallery/album.php?id=1
