Safe sex or barebacking? That is the question for many gay men. With the threat of HIV and other STIs, safe sex has been the way men play sex games. Still more and more men are having unprotected bareback sex? Does it just feel better? Do condoms prevent intimacy? Don’t get me wrong…I always play it safe unless I’m in a monogamous relationship.
A study in the USA found that women who do not use condoms during sex are less depressed and less likely to attempt suicide than are women who have sex with condoms or women who are not having sex at all. You guessed right…semen seems to contain a powerful and potentially addictive mood altering chemical. Any queen could have told you that! That also explains why there a lot of depressed women in my office...they are not getting any!
The study by the Psychology Department of the State University of New York also found that women who routinely had intercourse without condoms became increasingly depressed as more time elapsed since their last sexual encounter. There was a chemical or shall we say cock dependence.
Semen it seems is good for you…and fat free! Gulp. It contains hormones including testosterone, estrogen, prolactin and prostaglandins (yummy) and some of these are absorbed through the walls of the vagina or anus and are known to elevate the mood. So although the New York study has been dismissed, it could explain some gay men’s obsession with barebacking…they just want to feel less depressed. Still, I would rather be depressed than be infected with HIV or herpes. So play it safe...and swallow!
